The Freedom Programme
‘An enlightening opportunity to develop different ways of thinking to protect yourself and your children from harm.’
The programme looks at why men abuse their partners and children, and to recognise the beliefs that they hold which allow them to do it.
The Freedom Programme is a 12 week rolling programme with no waiting list. This means that you can join at any time and the benefits are the same as long as you complete a full 12 weeks. This programme is open to any women who wish to learn more about the reality of domestic violence and abuse.
The main aims of the Freedom Programme are as follows:
- To help women understand the beliefs held by abusive men and in doing so, recognise which of these beliefs they have shared
- To illustrate the effects of domestic violence on children
- To assist women to recognise potential future abusers
- To help women gain self-esteem and the confidence to improve the quality of their lives
- To introduce women to the community resources, such as Eva Women's Aid, Police Domestic Violence Unit, Sure Start etc.
The Freedom programme currently runs twice per week, once in Redcar and once in Loftus and is free to any woman who wishes to take part. Crèche places are available free of charge at both sites, but these do need to be booked in advance.
